Party leaders to address rally
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will hold a rally on Sunday in Dhaka to mark World Democracy Day. The procession is scheduled to begin from Nayapaltan at 2pm and end at Golapbagh field, where party leaders will address the rally. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the program at a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan central office on Thursday. He said the rally will be held to demand the restoration of democracy in the country. "We want to establish a democratic system in the country where people will have the right to vote and elect their representatives," Alamgir said. He also called upon people from all walks of life to join the rally. "We believe that the people of Bangladesh will come out on the streets on Sunday to show their support for democracy," Alamgir said. World Democracy Day is celebrated on September 15 every year. It was established by the United Nations in 2007 to promote the values of democracy and the right to self-determination.
